AFSCME President Gerald McEntee announced on Friday that his 1.6 million member union would donate $25,000 to the Solidarity Center’s Earthquake Relief for Haitian Workers Fund and has instructed all AFSCME locals to ask members to contribute as well.

“At this moment of urgent need, the Haitian government—and the people of Haiti—have asked for help from the world community,” said McEntee. “Those of us who can must heed this call in whatever way possible.”
The Solidarity Center’s Cathy Feingold reports from the Dominican Republic that transportation of goods to unions in Haiti remains very challenging. “This money will help us to get food and other essential items to those who are desperately in need,” she said. “We are overwhelmed by AFSCME’s generosity.”
Hundreds of individuals from all over the world, including scores of union members, have also donated to the fund, in amounts ranging from $5 to $1,000. We thank them deeply and urge you to give what you can to help.
